Capsule Geology

The Galena 2 East showing is underlain by rocks of the Upper Triassic Stuhini Group. A sample assayed 0.27 gram per tonne gold, 9.0 grams per tonne silver, 0.64 per cent copper, 85 parts per million lead and 2.84 per cent zinc (Sample DF43-9710, Assessment Report 18451). Sphalerite, pyrite and chalcopyrite occur in silicifed and brecciated quartz-ankerite(?) vein in volcanic rock.

Work by Trader Resources reported malachite staining and gossan zones on steep cliffs on the western slopes of a ridge trending north-south. Steep dipping 30 to 60 centimetre wide quartz-carbonate veins are present on these slopes and trend approximately east-west. The mineralization consists of chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena and arsenopyrite with significant gold and silver values. Values of up to 2.1 per cent copper, 2.6 per cent lead, 3.9 per cent zinc, 6.5 per cent arsenic, 215 grams per tonne silver and 0.64 gram per tonne gold were obtained from grab samples of vein material (Assessment Report 21460).

In 1988, the Galena 1 to 4 claims were staked by United Mineral Services Ltd 1988 to cover an area of previously noted galena mineralization. During 1985, Continental Gold spent five-man days on the property, mapping gossanous outcrops and collecting 23 rock samples for analysis.

In 1990, Trader Resource conducted minor geological mapping and prospecting on the Zinc 1-4 claims, which covered much of the same areas as the previous Galena 1-4 claims had covered in 1988. Most or all of Trader's work was conducted in the Showing 4 area (the Galena 2 East occurrence) first described by Continental Gold in 1988.
